The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office X, through Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), continues to expand its reach through the Cash-for-Work Program (CFWP) for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). A total of 470 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Salay, Lagonglong, and Villanueva in Misamis Oriental received their payouts during the distribution held from May 19–21, 2026 at their respective municipalities. The payout serves as direct compensation for participants who rendered 10 days of community cleanup and environmental maintenance in their assigned areas. Each recipient received a stipend of ₱4,610.00 for their service. Expressing deep gratitude for the inclusion of her sector, Ma. Ilena Jumawan, a 58-year-old beneficiary from Barangay Dayawan, Villanueva, shared how the community engagement physically energized her while alleviating financial hardship. “Nalipay kay nakatabang panlimpyo sa barangay ug nakabaskog sad kini sa among panlawas. Nalipay mi kay maskig [PWD] napansin mi. Daghang salamat nakatabang kini sa among kalisod, makatabang palit sa maintenance,” Ilena shared. The Cash-for-Work Program for PWDs is designed to provide short-term employment opportunities in exchange for community service, providing beneficiaries with cash assistance to meet their daily financial and medical needs. To ensure inclusivity, the program actively employs an adaptive household mechanism. In instances where a registered PWD beneficiary is physically restricted or medically incapacitated from rendering community labor, an authorized immediate family member is permitted to work and claim the compensation on their behalf. This initiative goes beyond easing financial challenges, it empowers differently abled people to take on meaningful roles within their communities, encouraging responsibility and civic engagement. Through continuous efforts like this, DSWD X reaffirms its dedication to supporting PWDs while strengthening their active involvement in long-term community development. (DSWD 10/ PR)
